Shelflife x Grasshoppers
Grasshopper is undoubtedly one of the most iconic, local shoe brands in our country. The factory was established in 1859 and it could be presumed that the moccasin style lace-up for which they're famous, was one of the first styles of its kind in existence. The original shoe factory where Grasshoppers are now made by Bolton Footwear still resides in the Grootbrak area. Some of the team working at the factory are already 3rd generation employees. With such a rich history embedded in South Africa, we knew we had to pay homepage to this local and iconic brand with a special collaboration consisting of three colours ways.
It is estimated that Grasshopper have sold 20 million pairs of shoes to date, around 3000 pairs a day. When our Shelflife x Grasshoppers went into production, we knew had to be there to document the craftsmanship and attention to detail. At Bolton Factory, the Grasshoppers are hand-stitched and manufactured with the same technique for over 55 years. We kept the moccasin structure unchanged and instead chose to elevate the style with 3 different colourways of the sneaker.
We added our Shelflife circle logo subtly de-bossed in a matching monotone all-over print to a premium suede upper. Finishing the detailing with the original gum colour crepe sole to match the premium waxed laces. Each pair is also accompanied by co-branded socks to match. Our collaboration with Grasshoppers aims to celebrate the heritage and versatility of the brand, while still adding a Shelflife premium touch.
The Shelflife x Grasshoppers drops in Biscuit, Dark Brown and Grassy Green this Saturday 18 September at our CPT, JHB and online store. The pack includes matching socks and extra wax laces for R1099.
