Air Jordan 4 Retro 'Bred Reimagined' Raffle

The Air Jordan 4 ‘Black Cement’ (aka ‘Bred’), made a powerful entrance with its 1989 debut when Michael Jordan stepped onto the court in a pair during his fifth All-Star Game at the NBA’s. His legendary performance served as a reminder to the world that he was not only the future of the league, but formed a huge part of footwear as well.

The Bred colourway Jordan worn during that game is celebrated to this day and still sits as one of the most iconic sneakers of all time. After initially releasing in 1989, it returned for the shoe’s 10th anniversary in 1999. It wasn’t until the third release, which arrived in 2008, that the Jumpman logo would replace the heel’s Nike Air branding and 2012 followed suit with the non-OG Jumpman. For its 30th anniversary Bred did a 360 and returned to the original from all those years back.

This year, as part of its ongoing “Reimagined” line that brings back classic pairs with a new interpretation, it only made sense for the Bred 4’s to be commemorated as part of the series. Dubbed the ‘Bred Reimagined,’ the upper’s typical base has been swapped out, while Nike notes that it “re-engineered the shape, fit and feel back to the original ‘89 specs.”

Of the four original Air Jordan 4 colorways to release in 1989- ‘Bred,’ ‘White Cement,’ ‘Military Blue’ and ‘Fire Red’- only the ‘Bred’ utilized a soft nubuck across its build and has done so with all five of its releases to date. So, when it came to the Air Jordan 4 Retro ‘Bred Reimagined’, swapping out to leather only made sense.

The “Bred Reimagined” favours thicker padding on the tongue unit compared to its ’89 counterpart but keeps the OG collar shape, resting slightly higher than the 2019 release. Compared to the latest 2019 it also sees more of the red trim visible from the front.

The remainder of the new sneaker differentiates itself from its 2019 predecessor by being more similar to the first MJ version. The toe has a smoother slope compared to the 2019 version which opted for a curved approach. The stitching beneath the “wings” of the shoe is tighter and higher on each side of the 2024 rendition, serving as another nod to the 1989 pair. The look is rounded off with the “Nike Air” at the heel, which is a key design component which had transformed and adjusted over its various releases.
