As we are nearing the much-anticipated release of Ronnie Fieg’s latest collab with New Balance, we’re giving a detailed look at the “City Never Sleeps” 998. The delivery accounts for the first time that Fieg has redesigned the Made in USA 998 silhouette, pulling inspiration from his New York City roots and living in the “concrete jungle.”
Often referred to as the center of the universe and for good reason, New York - The Big Apple serves as a sphere for the American dream and inspires people around the world to aspire and imagine like no other city. This status wouldn’t be possible without the ambition of New Yorkers.
This release is inspired by New York City’s energy and blur from day-to-night and night-to-day. For this, the designer and shop owner has gone with a tri-coloured approach, with the sections transitioning from blue nubuck to midnight navy nubuck and on to black pigskin suede at the heel.
The reflective “N” branding is a nod to the city’s vibrant lights, while the white midsole breaks things up underneath. Custom-printed insoles further commemorate the collaboration, which also boasts a debossed tongue, heel tagging and a trio of lace options.
