Sunday Times Generation Next Awards 2018


Last week Thursday saw Sunday Time’s annual Generation Next Brand awards. Held in Sandton Convention Centre, the awards honoured the coolest South African brands right now. Sunday Times surveyed more than 12 000 youths from our country, across 75 different catergories. Generation Next Brand awards is widely considered the leading barometer of what South Africa’s kids, teens and young adults find on-trend and aspirational.

 



The winners of the night were a mix of old and new brands and personalities. The winner of the overall Coolest Brand in SA was Nike, with adidas winning the Coolest Clothing Brand in SA. Nasty C, who also performed at the awards, took home the Coolest Local Music Star award, while Babes Wodumo was named Coolest Local Female Celebrity. FNB were crowned the Coolest Bank of SA yet again, and Metro FM won the Coolest Local Radio Station once again too. In terms of technology, Samsung was voted the Coolest Cellphone, Vodacom the Coolest Telecom Provider, and Apple's iPhone was awarded Coolest Hightech Gadget.



Siphiwe Tshabalala came out as the Coolest Local Sports Person, while Trevor Noah remained the Coolest Local Male Celebrity and the Coolest Local TV Star. Black Coffee also continued his reign as Coolest Local DJ. Lastly, Mc Donald's won Coolest Fast Food Place, Engen was the Coolest Petrol Station and the Rosebank College was voted Coolest College by the Youth of SA.



Nike, Samsung, adidas, Trace Urban, Top Gear, WhatsApp and Nivea were the only brands to achieve Coolest brand status in two or more categories of the survey.
