Street Art Cinemart: 2nd Edition

Street Art Cinemart is back for its second year! After making their debut last November in Joburg, the boutique event series promises to yet again deliver exciting local and international graffiti content to the city of Gold.

Street Art Cinemart 2019 series will feature premieres of groundbreaking urban art films, a publications showcase, walking tours through the city to explore the art form in its environment, a diverse group exhibition featuring renowned national artists from multiple cities, as well as a live painting demonstration by one of the country’s most talented artists.

Curated by Cale Waddacor, author of South Africa’s first graffiti and street art book, Graffiti South Africa, the multi-faceted event aims to bring the work to a new audience while fostering the local scene. The Cinemart is an advocate for the culture and intends to build a positive, educational showcase of urban contemporary art and expression.

For the second instalment of the event, new elements such as a sketch club and stencil workshop have been introduced. Graffiti artists share their work on the streets for the enjoyment of others and we would like the public to get involved too. We are also looking to include sketch battles, merchandise and apparel, and a colouring book relating to the exhibition. A new selection of films and exhibiting artists keep the content fresh. For a full list of all the screenings, publication, as well as more info about exhibition, sketch club, stencil workshop and walking tours, see the Facebook event.

The second edition of Street Art Cinemart is taking place on Saturday 26 October at The Bioscope Independent Cinema 286 Fox street, Maboneng, Johannesburg CBD. Doors open 10am until 10pm and entrance is completely free! There is only a small fee for the cinema programme.
