Dr. Mario World Releases to Mobile Next Week

Everyone’s favourite Italian plumber is switching his gear and putting his Medical qualifications to work in the upcoming Nintendo game arriving on mobile. While you might expect it to be a classic Mario side-scroller, it actually has more Tetris-style puzzle mechanics.

Instead of managing capsules as they fall down the screen, Dr. Mario World sees you drag them directly onto the pre-arranged play field. When you match 3 of the same colour, the virus has been dealt with and the space is open. The game is a Mario take on a simple match-3 game many have come to love on mobile.

But what's got most people really hyped for Dr. Mario World is multiplayer. Announced yesterday via a new trailer, you’ll be able to go head-to-head with your friends via Facebook. The matches will take place in real-time, and as you eliminate viruses, you'll fill your attack meter. When it's full, you can sabotage opponents by sending the viruses to them.

For the Nintendo fans, all your favourite iconic characters from the Super Mario Bros. universe are there. Each character has a discrete skill. Princess Peach, for example, can remove a random row from the stage. Toad on the other hand, deletes five random objects anywhere on the board. Character diversity is a great addition to the game, allowing you to find your play style and destroy your mates in the process.

Dr. Mario World is releasing next Wednesday 10 July to iOS and Android for free!
