Converse #CreateAtHome Campaign with 5 Local Artists

Converse has teamed up with 5 extremely talented artists for a special custom campaign inspired by the lockdown in Africa!

The campaign sees Fhatuwani Mukheli, Sindiso Nyoni, Nardstar, David Tshabalala (Slaying Goliath), and Falko1 all give their own twist to the iconic Chuck Taylor by visually depicting the African experience of COVID-19 on the classic silhouette.

Proudly South African, the release is extremely limited too. There are only 75 pairs of each design in existence - available now via Converse.co.za. In the efforts of giving back to an establishment that has been affected by the pandemic, Converse has selected the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund in which all proceeds will go to following the sale of all sneakers.
Read a little bit about each artist and their design below!

Falko Fantastic (One Direction)
Well-known, Capetonian graffiti artist, @falko1graffiti, draws inspiration from the world around him when he wants to create and Converse has invited him to #CreateAtHome and design a pair of Chuck 70 that reflects the current world climate for the new limited-edition collection.

Slaying Goliath (In Living Colour) Inspired by pop culture and people he meets every day, illustrator and graphic designer @slaying.goliath has developed his own quirky, artistic style that focuses on society's issues at large, making him the perfect fit to #CreateAtHome and design a pair of Chuck 70 for the range of limited-edition sneakers. Regarding this collaboration Slaying Goliath says “Few brands scream ‘street-cred’ more than Converse. My impact on pop culture reverberates from the 'gram to the streets and there's no better fit for me to collab with.”

Nardstar (Boskop) Known for her use of bold lines and carefully considered colours, renowned Cape Town street artist, @nard_star, has been selected as Converse’s next artist to #CreateAtHome and design a pair of limited-edition Chuck 70 that portrays her feelings and the strength of Africa as a continent during this global crisis.

Fhatuwani (Hope) Illustrator and fine artist @fhatuwanimukheli uses art to change perspectives, create life and bring colour to people’s souls. Converse is proud to have him be one of the artists who will #CreateAtHome and design a pair Chuck 70 for the limited-edition collection. "All big things come from small beginnings. The seed of every habit is a single, tiny decision, but as that decision is repeated a habit sprout and grows stronger. Roots entrench themselves and branches grow, the task of breaking a bad habit is like uprooting a powerful oak within us and the task of building a good habit is like cultivating a delicate flower one day at a time"

Sindiso Nyoni (Khulekani) Meet @sindiso, a self-taught Zimbabwean graphic artist, that will be the first artist to design a pair of Chuck 70 for the limited-edition collection. "It's an artists' duty to reflect the times in which we live."
