Thebe Magugu Wins LVMH Prize

Kimberly-born Designer Thebe Magugu is had a massive year. And it just got even bigger! Yesterday Thebe was crowned the top prize at LVMH Young Fashion Designers Awards, beating over 1700 applicants. Winning Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy’s LVMH Prize is probably the most coveted award any young designer in fashion can achieve. And it's the first African designer to win the award ever too!

Thebe Magugu and his namesake women's line will receive €300,000 (about R4.9m) as a prize, as well as a one-year mentorship programme provided by a dedicated LVMH team.

The final of the sixth edition of LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers took place on 4th September 2019 at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, in the presence of five artistic directors from Houses of the LVMH group – Kris Van Assche (Berluti), Maria Grazia Chiuri (Dior), Nicolas Ghesquière (Louis Vuitton), and Clare Waight Keller (Givenchy) – as well as Delphine Arnault, Jean-Paul Claverie and Sidney Toledano. We are very proud that Thebe got the recognition he deserves and this is only the start for the designer and his brand!
