The 10 Most Expensive Artworks Sold at Auction in 2019

The 10 Most Expensive Artworks Sold at Auction in 2019
With today being the last of the decade, HYPEBEAST have been kind enough to round up the biggest auction sales for artworks this year. While the 10 artworks include various artists, they were in fact all auctioned through either Christie’s and Sotheby’s - with most being from each auction house's New York location. And look out for that number 1 spot being taken by a sale that was over R1.5 Billion!

HYPEBEAST reports many of the pieces were made after 1960, signalling a strong interest in contemporary art. Jeff Koons, Andy Warhol and Robert Rauschenberg are all contemporary leaders on the list. However, contemporary pieces mentioned are grounded by iconic works that date before 1960 from the likes of Claude Monet, Paul Cezanne and Francis Bacon.
