Bringing South African talent to international waters, “Notes from the Native Yards,” the debut LP from South African rap duo Ill Skillz, releases in Germany.
Formed in 2005, Ill Skillz – comprised of Lukhona Sitole and Uno July – have caused a stir in the international music scene, performing at a host of local and international music events, and alongside a span of artists, including Slum Village, People Under The Stairs, DJ Premier, Blu &Exile, and Travis McCoy, and most recently, as a surprise act with Kendrick Lamar during the South African leg of his Good Kid M.A.A.D City tour.
Through “Notes from the Native Yards”, Ill Skillz pays homage to their origins, by capturing the sprit of Gughulethu, a township in Cape Town. Infusing local flavor with global influence, the album features collaborations with international artists, including German-based singer Sandra Amarie and South African Melo B Jones.
Following the release of “Notes from the Native Yards” in Germany, Ill Skillz will be performing a series of live shows throughout the upcoming year, as well as releasing the album across Europe.
