Shelflife are proud to announce that we are adding Stance to our growing selection of sock brands. While there’s a good chance you may have heard of Stance before, most don’t know their history.
Co-founder Jeff Kearl started Stance in 2009. At the time, Jeff was working for the well-known headphone brand Skullcandy. While looking down the sock aisle, he realised the potential that this seriously over-looked fashion category had. He saw socks in black, white, brown and grey, in plastic bags and really inexpensive. It reminded him of when Skullcandy first started in 2003. The headphone aisle was all homogenised. It was black and silver, and all looked like consumer electronics.
Like Skullcandy, Stance found success by injecting interesting prints, colours, and designs into what had become nothing more than a boring accessory. This led the founders on a trailblazing path that raised them $50 million in funding in 2015 alone. The brand also became the official on-court sock of the NBA starting in the 2015-2016 season. As part of the deal, Stance is allowed to display its logo on all socks worn on-court by players, a first in NBA history for apparel companies.
Stance has collaborated with a massive amount of artists, brands and athletes. These include the likes of Ronnie Fieg, Big Sean, Rihanna, Allen Iverson, Basquiat, Star Wars and New Balance. Besides the high-profile collaborations, Stance offer amazing quality socks with equally amazing and unique prints season after season.
