Shelflife Artist Tee Series: Ben Eagle
We are happy to announce our July Artist Tee collaboration, with none other than Ben Eagle! Ben is a painter and artist based in Cape Town that's known for his paintings with simple amorphous shapes and amazing colours. Besides selling his own artworks, he has collaborated with Sol-Sol and Rich Mnisi in the past, and we are very excited that it's now our turn.
We were able to ask Ben Eagle some questions about his work, highlights as an artist and more. Check out the short interview below! 
Where did your love for illustration and art in general begin?
I grew up in a creative household so I was surrounded by the arts from a young age, but doing graffiti is what lead me into making art.
Who are some of your biggest influences?
Ellsworth Kelly, Paul Kremer, Zander Blom, Toro Y Moi.
What have been some of your highlights as an artist so far?
Being able to work with brands that I actually like and making a living from it at the same time.
If you could collaborate with one artist or brand, who would it be and why?
Dream collab would probably be Carhartt WIP or ADER, they’re two of my favourite brands and the product they put out when it comes to collabs is always amazing. 
How did you interpret the concept of the Shelflife "S" into your artwork?
I wanted to create a minimalistic design that would look good with whatever you’re wearing, and pair well with almost any sneaker.
What are your essentials you use to create your work, all captured in one photo? 
What would an average day for Ben Eagle look like?
Not many days are the same, it usually starts with emails, and then I’m either working on designs for prints/paintings, or I’m working on collaborative projects with brands, or on other graphic design or illustration projects which I do on a freelance basis. I might try squeeze in a cycle if I get time at the end of the day.
Any advice to those wanting to get started in the industry and stand out?
Just make a lot of work and put out a lot of content.
Social media is really important when you’re trying to get your name out there.
