Puma x Sneaker Freaker Blaze of Glory Pack
Following the immense success of their first collaboration, PUMA reunites with Australian-born sneaker magazine, Sneaker Freaker, for a reworking of the Blaze of Glory pack.
First dropped in 2008, the shark-theme design sneakers, ‘Great White’ and ‘Black Beast’, received high acclaim from the international sneakerhead community and sold out worldwide within minutes. In a somewhat unorthodox display of return resurrection, the two brands have reunited five years later, to meet the demands of sneakerheads across the globe and remix the PUMA x Sneaker Freaker silhouette.
Sneaker Freaker founder, Simon ‘Woody’ Wood, worked closely with the talented Jon Tang, PUMA’s lifestyle footwear designer, for the reworking of the popular model. After some deliberation as to whether a reissue was an appropriate move, Wood decided for the motion, simply to satisfy the high demand of the iconic model – coined as arguably one of PUMA’s greatest collaborations of all time. “Rules are meant to be broken,†Wood stated in response to the rare return collaboration, and we’re all the happier to see these epic sneakers on foot again.
The ‘Great White’ and ‘Black Beat’ model’s retain their intrinsic elements, such as the shark tooth jewels, iconic geometric logo and fluorescent pink, blood red and aqua blue highlights across the grey and black colourways respectively. Keeping close to the original design, certain features were enhanced to include a colour-coded sock liner and a performance enhancing inner sole for added comfort. The Blaze of Glory pack is released the two original colourways and now includes a lightweight model, The Blaze of Glory LTWT, comprised of a lightweight neoprene mesh and other synthetic and reflective materials. Both colourways employ a silver-grey laboured nubuck, sourced and reformed by Tang, to resemble the genuine shark skin leather used in the OG Friends and Family edition.
The PUMA x Sneaker Freaker Blaze of Glory 5th Anniversary pack is accompanied by custom packaging – an oversized foam padded box embossed with the trademark diamond ‘shark attack’ logo – as well as a complimentary Puma x Shelflife Blaze of Glory matching colourway t-shirt bearing the geometric design motif.
