During the ’90s, Nike was out to make their mark as the premier creator of turf shoes for the NFL’s greatest athletes, and one of their creations was the bold Air Barrage, a striking mid-top silhouette that has now returned to market for the first time since its original release in 1995.
Worn by the transcendent Marshall Faulk during his early days with the Indianapolis Colts and the consistent Ernie Mills from the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Barrage was most well-known for its eye-catching layered upper and bold Air branding, a detail that also appeared on other ’95 classics like the Air Max Uptempo.
For this Quickstrike release, the upper combines a purple mesh base with black overlays and pops of sporty red. This is complemented with a great amount of Swooshes, which appear on the midfoot strap, quarter, tongue, toebox, and tri-colour heel tab. The tongue offers an abstract-shaped purple rubber patch, and a bulky midsole complete with the aforementioned “AIR” embellishment finalizes the look.
