M.I.A in SA

Another great international artist is coming to SA! Thanks to Black Major, M.I.A will be gracing our shores this June for two performances in Johannesburg and Cape Town. The British-Sri Lankan artist and activist will also be hosting a screening of her documentary MATANGI/MAYA/M.I.A

Directed by Steve Loveridge, the film premiered earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival as a tell-all documentary about M.I.A’s interesting life and activism. It focuses on her upbringing, her experiences as a teenage immigrant in London and how she grew into the artist that she is today.  We are lucky enough be part of the Southern Hemisphere screening debut at the Encounters SA Docfest in both JHB and CPT cinemas.

The Paper Planes singer will also be supported by amazing local acts. The Johannesburg concert will see DJ Doowap, Buli, Dear Ribane and Phatsoki perform, while Cape Town will host Angel-Ho, K-$ and Jakinda.

Cape Town performance is on 7 June at the Old Biscuit Mill, 373 Albert Road, Woodstock.

Johannesburg performance is on 8 June at the Newton Music Factory, 10 Henry Nxumalo Street, Newtown.

You can buy your CPT tickets here and JHB here.

The Encounters Film Festival starts on 31 May, see the schedule on Black Major's site.
