Apple and Google Unveil New Emojis

Apple and Google Unveil New Emojis
With International Emoji Day officially upon us, it’s time we take a look at the new ones coming to iPhone and Android. To celebrate this massive day, Google and Apple have showed off their adaptations of the dozens of emoji characters coming to their platforms later in the year.

Accessibility is a big theme. You’ll notice there is a guide dog, wheelchair, walking cane, prosthetic limbs, an ASL sign for ‘deaf’ and a hearing aid all set to be added to both platforms. Other changes include altering the way Emojis hold hands. You can now hold hands with whoever you please, regardless of the sex or race.

There are also some fun Emojis joining the party. Expect a waffle, a pair of underwear, Tuk-Tuk, Sloth, Flamingo, a soon-to-be favourite yawning smiley, Skunk, Orangutang, juice box and even falafel joining later this year. There are so many coming I can’t mention them all. Lastly though, there’s also an emphasis on India and its culture. Emotes like a Hindu temple, a Diya lamp and a sari are all included this year.

There are also rumours about changing the colours of non-human items, for example changing the colour of a cat, or making red wine into white wine. Check out some of the upcoming Emojis set for Android and iOS later in 2019! The different styles account for the difference between operating systems.
